THE 10 x 10 000

  • 2019

  • Research Based Video Game

When a migrant enters the EU, he is granted asylum. The EU and its allies have been building up borderlands around the enclave of Melilla to prevent this. ‘The 10 X 10 000’ draws from Dante’s
inferno and is a video game of infinite outcomes used as a research methodology for uncovering ways of poking holes into border infrastructure.

This is to move towards the border not as a scar on the landscape but as a center of activity with the advantages of being on no man’s land. The game is envisioned as a multiplayer first-person shooter without any shooting and employs the actions of the different players as they collectively pursue their agendas leaving cumulative marks on the gamescape from which the architectures of a new borderland can be defined. The architecture creates a dynamic borderline that can respond to the varied and extreme demands of a postglobalized world.
